Vietnam’s historic April 30 victory – a testament to revolutionary heroism: Argentine media

Buenos Aires, April 30 (VNA) – Vietnam’s historic April 30, 1975 victory was not only a moment of national pride but also a source of joy for peace lovers worldwide who closely followed the war in Vietnam with a hope that the country would overcome US imperialism after it had defeated French colonialism, said Editor-in-Chief of Resumen Latinoamericano Carlos Aznárez.

Talking with Vietnam News Agency correspondents in Buenos Aires on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the liberation of the South and national reunification (April 30), Aznárez said the April 30 victory held great significance not just for Vietnam, but for the entire Southeast Asia and beyond, marking a critical turning point in the global movement to end the Cold War with far-reaching implications for many nations. Vietnam’s triumph also stood as a powerful example for oppressed peoples worldwide striving for independence and freedom to follow.

April 30 remains a golden milestone in Vietnam’s history, embodying patriotism, resilience, and a desire for freedom and independence. It is also a symbol of solidarity and a triumph of the collective strength of the Vietnamese people under the sound leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam, he said.

Over the past five decades since the war’s end, Vietnam has made extraordinary strides in national reconstruction and development. Through its Doi Moi (Renewal) policy, the country transitioned from a centrally planned economy to a socialist-oriented market economy. Today, Vietnam ranks among the world’s fastest-growing economies, with considerable improvements in living standards.

Alongside its economic progress, Vietnam has achieved notable success in expanding its external relations. The country maintains diplomatic ties with all nations and plays an active role in global organisations while steadfastly upholding the principles of national independence, peace, cooperation, equality, and mutual benefit.

Reflecting on Vietnam’s historic struggle, Aznárez recalled that many Argentine journalists traveled to Vietnam during the war, reporting on the conflict and shedding light on the justice of the Vietnamese cause. Among them was late evolutionary and a distinguished journalist Enrique Walker, who wrote extensively to help the Argentine public understand the true nature of the war. His articles paid tribute to the bravery and victories of the Vietnamese army and people during some of the war’s most harrowing moments.

Concluding the interview, Aznárez stressed that the joy of April 30, 1975 remains a timeless and unforgettable moment for Argentine revolutionaries.

The progressive media platform Redes Ciudadanas, known for its multi-perspective analyses of political and social issues, published a powerful analysis by commentator Carlos Mendez.

In the article, Mendez wrote that half a century ago, when much of the world viewed US military might as invincible, the Vietnamese people proved that napalm, B-52 bombers, and Agent Orange could not suppress a nation’s will for freedom. The historic Ho Chi Minh Campaign not only ended one of the bloodiest wars of modern times, but also delivered a timeless lesson: the truth belongs to resilient nations.

From a comparative perspective, Mendez underscored Vietnam’s transformation from a war-ravaged country into a stable nation with an impressive 7.1% growth rate in 2024, while also achieving admirable standards of social justice.

The article also commended Vietnam’s approach to commemorating the anniversary, which highlights unity and cultural reflection through exhibitions and civic events rather than militaristic displays.

Redes Ciudadanas further reflected on the global significance of Vietnam’s 1975 victory, saying that it was a turning point ushering in a multipolar world where smaller nations can shape global dynamics. Amid rising extremism and populism, the anniversary serves as a powerful reminder that human dignity, when defended by an entire people, will endure.

The piece concluded with a rousing message that as Vietnam is celebrating its Golden Jubilee, the world is invited to join in, not only to honour the historic triumph but also to affirm that the humanity will always remember those who dare to fight for freedom./
