They arrived at 4.30 pm and were handed over to the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) for further investigation.
In a statement, Malaysia’s Foreign Ministry said this was the fourth group of Malaysians successfully repatriated following earlier operations on February 24 (15 individuals), March 12 (25 individuals), and March 26 (24 individuals).
“To date, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has successfully repatriated 80 Malaysians, including the 16 individuals who arrived today.
“All these operations were carried out through close cooperation between agencies, including Malaysia’s Ministry of Home Affairs, the Ministry of Health, PDRM (Royal Malaysian Police), the Immigration Department of Malaysia, and the Consulate General of Malaysia in Songkhla,” it said.
The ministry also expressed its utmost appreciation to the Governments of Thailand and Myanmar for their continued cooperation in facilitating and expediting the repatriation process of the 16 Malaysians.
The statement added that the ministry remains committed to safeguarding the welfare of Malaysians abroad and will continue to provide consular assistance through Malaysia’s diplomatic missions overseas to those in need.
