Shura Sec Gen participates in South-South parliamentary secretariat meeting in Rabat

Rabat, Apr. 30 (BNA): Kareema Mohammed Al Abbasi, Secretary-General of the Shura Council, participated in the inaugural meeting of the Secretaries-General Network of the South-South Parliamentary Dialogue Forum in Rabat.
Al Abbasi underscored that the Kingdom of Bahrain, under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and the support of the government led by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, continues to launch initiatives and cooperative projects that support the enhancement of pioneering experiences with both friendly countries. She noted Bahrain’s consistent diplomatic positions and its ongoing efforts to support international cooperation, particularly with countries of the Global South.
Al Abbasi noted that the initiative to establish the Secretaries-General Network is supported and closely followed by Ali bin Saleh Al Saleh, Chairman of the Shura Council, who emphasises strengthening multilateral parliamentary cooperation and considers general secretariats essential to legislative support and the modernisation of parliamentary work.
She welcomed the establishment of the Network, commending the Association’s adoption of this pioneering initiative. She said it reflects a strong awareness of the importance of institutional coordination and opens a new path for joint efforts based on partnership, knowledge exchange, and the integration of capacities.
Al Abbasi noted that the Network is a strategic step and a valuable opportunity for Arab and African countries to exchange experiences amid global shifts in digitalisation, cybersecurity, data management, and institutional transformation. She emphasised the need for a platform to align visions, enhance coordination, and strengthen the readiness of legislative secretariats to build sustainable, secure, and efficient work environments.
She underscored the need to establish effective cooperation mechanisms among the Association’s legislative secretariats, based on innovation and best institutional practices. Al Abbasi proposed enhancing parliamentary digital transformation through sharing expertise in legislative automation, using artificial intelligence in legislative processes, and developing shared information systems. She also proposed creating a unified digital knowledge platform to compile studies and practices from member parliaments as a resource to build administrative and technical capacities.
Al Abbasi expressed hope that the Network would serve as a foundation for sustained joint action, promote greater integration among the legislative councils of the Association of Senates, Shura, and Equivalent Councils of the Global South, and support efforts to build more effective, efficient, and sustainable institutions.
