Bahrain participates in 38th Executive Committee meeting of Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union

Algiers, May. 2 (BNA): The Kingdom of Bahrain’s parliamentary delegation, headed by Ahmed Abdulwahed Qarata, Second Deputy Speaker of the Council of Representatives, participated in the 38th Executive Committee meeting of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union (AIPU), held in the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria.

Qarata underscored Bahrain’s unwavering national stance, under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, in supporting just Arab causes, foremost among them the Palestinian cause.

He emphasised that this commitment is reflected in Bahrain’s initiatives at regional and international levels, particularly the “Bahrain Declaration” issued at the Arab Summit held in Manama in May last year. The declaration, he noted, called for intensified international efforts to protect the Palestinian people and proposed the deployment of international peacekeeping forces in the occupied Palestinian territories until the two-state solution is realised.

Qarata underscored that the Arab nation is facing a critical period marked by escalating political, economic, and humanitarian challenges.

Qarata emphasised the need for strengthened coordination and unity, particularly in response to the ongoing aggression against the Gaza Strip and the resulting humanitarian crisis. He called for sustained Arab parliamentary engagement on the global stage to address these pressing issues.

He highlighted the importance of enhancing Arab parliamentary diplomacy and intensifying collective efforts through joint parliamentary action to confront threats to Arab rights.

Qarata said that a unified Arab parliamentary voice can influence the international landscape when supported by collective political will and shared vision. He further emphasised the parliamentary responsibility to advance the mechanisms of the AIPU and reinforce coordination among Arab parliaments to protect common interests, promote dialogue and peace, and uphold the dignity and rights of Arab peoples.

The meeting, chaired by Ibrahim Boughali, President of the People's National Assembly of Algeria, reviewed the General Secretariat’s activity report, financial proposals by the temporary financial committee, and requests from member states for debt exemptions. The committee also discussed establishing a clear legal mechanism to address outstanding dues and considered proposed amendments to the rules governing the Parliamentary Excellence Award.

The session concluded with discussions on the date and location of the upcoming 39th Executive Committee meeting, in preparation for the 38th Conference of the AIPU, set to convene on Saturday.
