Ho Chi Minh’s thought – a beacon for global justice movements: Dominican Party leader
Hanoi, May 20 (VNA) – The enduring legacy of President Ho Chi Minh has become a source of inspiration for movements fighting for national independence and social justice across the globe, according to General Secretary of the United Left Movement (MIU) Party of the Dominican Republic Miguel Mejía.
In a recent interview with the Vietnam News Agency (VNA)'s reporter in the Americas on the occasion of the late leader’s 135th birth anniversary, Mejía underscored President Ho Chi Minh's thought stemmed from the fusion of unwavering patriotism and aspiration to liberate humanity from all forms of oppression.
The Dominican party leader underscored the lesson of great national solidarity in President Ho Chi Minh’s thought remains profoundly relevant to contemporary progressive movements in Latin America, sharing how the MIU Party has drawn from the principle to build a solidarity bloc that embraces diverse components and ideologies.
Touching on the bilateral relations, Mejía recalled the establishment of diplomatic ties in 2005 and the Dominican Republic's opening of its embassies in 2023 as pivotal milestones. He described the moment when the Dominican flag was first raised in Hanoi was historic for his country.
On economic cooperation, the MIU General Secretary highlighted priority areas, including agriculture, telecommunications, and energy. He particularly appreciated the potential for collaboration with Viettel Group, stressing that the Dominican Republic stands ready to facilitate Vietnamese enterprises’ investment in the country’s free trade zones.
Mejía highly valued Vietnam's development model, especially its ability to balance economic growth with national sovereignty protection. He held that Vietnam has proven that a nation could deeply integrate into the global economy while maintaining an independent development orientation.
Sharing his reflections on President Ho Chi Minh's message “Nothing is more precious than independence and freedom” in the current context, Mejía said he believes that this is not merely a call for struggle but a profound development philosophy, reminding nations to remain vigilant against all forms of external intervention.
Recounting his visit to Vietnam on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the liberation of the South and national reunification (April 30, 1975 - 2025), Mejía expressed admiration for the dynamic development of the S-shaped country which boasts the combination of tradition and modernity as well as national identity and integration trends.
He praised the leadership role of the Communist Party of Vietnam in inheriting and developing President Ho Chi Minh's thought to meet the requirements of the current context. He particularly laid stress on the strategic vision in Vietnam's multilateral foreign policies.
Concluding the conversation, he affirmed that President Ho Chi Minh's thought will continue to serve as a spiritual bridge between nations pursuing independence, freedom, and social justice. He said the relationship between the progressive forces of the two countries will continue to develop, contributing to realising the common aspiration for a peaceful, just, and sustainable world./.
