After Pakistan, Kasab wants to write a letter to Mecca

Mumbai, July 10 (PTI) Arrested Pakistani gunman
Mohammed Ajmal Amir Kasab Friday requested the special court
in Mumbai for an envelope to write a letter to an unspecified
recipient in Mecca in Saudi Arabia.

Towards the end of court proceedings the gunman, accused
in 26/11 terror strikes, stood in the dock and told the court,
"Sir mujhe ek lifafa chahiye. (Sir, I want an envelope)".

When Special Judge M L Tahaliyani asked Kasab why he
wanted the envelope, he replied, "I want to write a letter."

Kasab said he wanted to write a letter to Saudi Arabia
and when asked by the court if there were any relatives, he
replied he did not know anyone there.

"Kisi ko to likhna hoga (I want to write to somebody),"
he shrugged and told the court.

On further questions, Kasab told the court that he
wanted to write the letter to someone in Mecca, but said he
could not specify whom he wanted to write the letter to or its
purpose.

Judge Tahaliyani then asked him to consult with his
lawyer about whom he wanted to send the letter and file an
application before the court on Monday if he still wanted to
write it.

"I am unaware about the contents about which he (Kasab)
wishes to write. As Ramzan is approaching, it is possible he
wanted to write to someone at Mecca but I will need to find
out more before I file an application," Kasab's lawyer Abbas
Kazmi said.

Earlier, Kasab has written to Pakistani authorities
saying he was a Pakistani citizen and seeking consular access.
However, he did not received any response. PTI AG
