SSaudi Human Rights Commission lauds Justice Ministry's statement
Riyadh, July 10, SPA -- Dr. Bandar bin Mohammed Al-Eiban, Chief of
the Saudi Human Rights Commission, today lauded the remarks recently
made by a spokesman of the Ministry of Justice on human rights in
Saudi Arabia, citing the right of those indicted to assign lawyers
and file appeals against unacceptable rules of elementary penal
courts.
In a statement, he said this confirms that judiciary in the Kingdom
of Saudi Arabia works within the Penal Measures System and other
relevant regulations and international agreements and treaties.
He hailed yesterday's remarks by a Justice Ministry's senior
official on the Saudi TV that all 330 held in custody for
terror-related crimes were granted the right to seek the help of an
advocate and file appeals against unacceptable rulings.
The Ministry's official also said many of the indicted were
acquitted, confirming the independence of the Saudi litigation
system, the commission's statement said.
