AZERBAIJAN IS IMPORTANT PARTNER BOTH FOR THE UNITED STATES AND WORLD’ US DEPUTY SECRETARY
Baku, July 11 (AzerTAc). Azerbaijan is very important partner both for the United States and the world, US Deputy Secretary of State James Steinberg told a news conference in Baku.
He added “From the very beginning of the Obama Administration we have been strengthening our partnership with government and people of Azerbaijan.”
Expressing importance of cooperation with Azerbaijan, the US official said the United States is grateful to Azerbaijani government for participation in peacekeeping operations.
Touching upon Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh, Mr. Steinberg said “We have been very encouraged by the recent progress that has been made in connection with the Minsk Group co-chairs. We have very strongly supported the efforts of the two presidents trying moving this through constructive solution within the benefit of both countries, and region as well.”
In reply to the question of AzerTAc correspondent “How the US administration estimates the role of Azerbaijan in global energy security”, he said: “It is an engagement the United States has had with Azerbaijan for a long time and involvement together in the creation of the BTC pipeline with a critical development in the 1990s. It is not a question that Azerbaijan plays very important role in energy supplies. We are very interested in cooperation with Azerbaijan in this field.”
