Bucharest, June 5 (BNA): The King Hamad Global Center for Coexistence and Tolerance participated in the 32nd General Assembly of the Interparliamentary Assembly on Orthodoxy (IAO), held in Bucharest, Romania, from June 2-6, under the theme "Cooperation between Parliaments and Religious Institutions in Developing Guidelines for the Use of Artificial Intelligence – The Importance of the Marrakesh Declaration by the Inter-Parliamentary Union".
During the plenary session, Noora Abdulla Al Mansoori, Director of Coexistence at the Center, highlighted the Kingdom of Bahrain’s commitment to enhancing international cooperation and partnership between parliamentary, executive, and religious institutions. She emphasised the importance of formulating fair digital policies and activating ethical frameworks to benefit from modern technologies and AI applications, to ensure a more just and tolerant world and uphold the values of democracy, justice, coexistence, and tolerance in the face of growing international challenges and risks.
She presented the Centre’s experience in using AI-powered educational tools through the "Science Schools for Peace" initiative, launched in Jordan in partnership with the Inter-Parliamentary Union and in collaboration with the Synchrotron-light for Experimental Science and Applications in the Middle East (SESAME). She highlighted that the initiative included two innovative projects: "AI Assistant 1" and "AI Participant 1," to support legislative and executive institutions in task management, data analysis, report writing, and decision-making.
Al Mansoori underlined the Centre’s dedication to supporting cross-cultural dialogue and advancing the ethical foundation of digital policies to promote a culture of peace and prevent their misuse in violating privacy or inciting intolerance and hatred. She noted that this approach is guided by the vision of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and the call of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, for an international treaty to regulate the responsible and ethical development of AI, enhancing trust, transparency, and shared human values.
