Labour Acting Minister underscores efforts in advancing workplace rights

Geneva, June 6 (BNA): Yousif bin Abdulhussain Khalaf, Minister of Legal Affairs and Acting Minister of Labour, affirmed Bahrain’s commitment to strengthening fundamental labour rights under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and the guidance of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister.
Speaking at the 113th Session of the International Labour Conference in Geneva, held from June 1 to 14, Minister Khalaf highlighted Bahrain’s ongoing efforts to develop advanced legislation that protects workers’ rights, ensures trade union freedoms, and promotes the participation of social partners in decision-making processes.
Minister Khalaf praised the report presented by Gilbert F. Houngbo, Director-General of the International Labour Organisation, which addressed the theme “Forging the Link Between Jobs, Rights, and Economic Growth.” He noted the report’s insights on enhancing the relationship between employment, rights, and economic development.
The minister outlined Bahrain’s integrated policies to promote job creation, safeguard rights, and ensure sustainable growth. He referenced Bahrain’s Tier 1 ranking in the US Department of State’s Trafficking in Persons Report for the seventh consecutive year, reflecting the Kingdom’s effective efforts in this field.
He also emphasised the absence of child labour, measures to prevent workplace discrimination, and the adoption of the latest occupational health and safety legislation.
Minister Khalaf further noted Bahrain’s continued initiatives to support women’s advancement and empower youth participation in the labour market.
