Riyadh, June 9, 2025, SPA -- The Film Commission announced its membership in the International Association of Sound and Audiovisual Archives (IASA), a strategic step aimed at enhancing the commission’s global presence in the field of audiovisual archiving.
IASA includes members from 70 countries and represents archival institutions worldwide that specialize in preserving diverse materials such as visual content, musical works, historical and literary recordings, and oral histories.
This membership aligns with the commission’s broader efforts to safeguard and preserve Saudi Arabia’s audiovisual heritage. Through this affiliation, the commission aims to develop advanced archiving projects and promote knowledge exchange with leading global institutions in the field.
The move further reflects the commission’s commitment to adopting best practices and modern technologies in film archiving, thus strengthening its role as a pioneering institution. Cooperation with IASA members will enable access to the latest innovations and technologies in audiovisual preservation, enhancing the Kingdom’s ability to protect its cultural heritage for future generations.
Founded in 1969 in Amsterdam, IASA promotes collaboration among institutions dedicated to audiovisual preservation. The association organizes an annual conference that facilitates the exchange of knowledge and expertise in preservation, restoration, digitization, intellectual property protection, and public access to archival collections.
