Bahrain participates in Third United Nations Ocean Conference in Nice

Nice, June 9 (BNA): Wael bin Nasser Al Mubarak, Minister of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture, and Hamad Yaqoub Al Mahmeed, Director General of the Prime Minister’s Office, participated in the Third United Nations Ocean Conference 2025, hosted in Nice, France, from June 9 to 13.
The Kingdom of Bahrain’s delegation also included Essam Abdulaziz Al Jassim, Ambassador of Bahrain to the French Republic.
The conference, held under the theme “Accelerating action and mobilizing all actors to conserve and sustainably use the ocean,” is co-chaired by the French Republic and the Republic of Costa Rica. It brings together a wide range of participants, including government representatives, UN and non-governmental organisations, financial and research institutions, and civil society organisations.
Minister Al Mubarak affirmed that the Government of the Kingdom, guided by the vision of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and the directives of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, continues to implement plans, programmes, and projects aligned with national development goals, with a particular focus on enhancing environmental security. He highlighted the National Action Plan “Blueprint Bahrain” aimed at achieving carbon neutrality by 2060, as announced by His Majesty the King.
The minister reiterated Bahrain’s support for international efforts to combat climate change and protect natural resources, including seas and oceans. He noted the constructive cooperation between the Kingdom and various United Nations organisations, which has yielded positive outcomes in advancing environmental sustainability at all levels. He further emphasised Bahrain’s commitment to accelerating sustainable development by adopting best practices to ensure a better and more sustainable future.
The Third United Nations Ocean Conference aims to support the implementation of Sustainable Development Goal 14, which focuses on the conservation and sustainable use of oceans, seas, and marine resources. The conference seeks to raise awareness of the challenges facing oceans, share lessons learned, promote best practices and sound policies, and enhance cooperation among governments to safeguard the planet’s resources. Key topics include combating plastic pollution, reducing overfishing, and establishing marine protected areas.
The conference also aims to adopt a declaration on ocean conservation and sustainable ocean-based economies, and to launch the “Nice Ocean Action Plan” to accelerate efforts in ocean preservation and sustainable use.
