Paris, June 11 (BNA): Dr. Fajr Al Salloum, Director of the Animal Health Directorate at the Ministry of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture and Vice President of the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH) Council, participated in the 92nd General Session of the World Assembly of Delegates of World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH) held in France.
The session witnessed the participation of representatives from 183 member countries, alongside several international organisations and institutions concerned with animal health.
The session addressed several vital issues, most notably the adoption of updated international standards for animal health and trade, a review of the epidemiological situation in member countries regarding diseases such as foot-and-mouth disease and avian influenza, and the strengthening of coordination among member states under the One Health approach.
An "Animal Health" forum was also held, focusing on vaccines and immunisation, and highlighting the challenges and opportunities related to vaccine development and use as part of strategies to prevent and control animal diseases, with the aim of establishing a roadmap containing concrete actions to enhance the effectiveness of the global immunisation system.
The session concluded with several key recommendations, including the adoption of new technical standards and recommendations within the terrestrial and aquatic health codes, the launch of joint initiatives to enhance transparency and improve epidemic reporting mechanisms, the adoption of new strategies to combat emerging and zoonotic diseases, and support for national capacity-building programmes in the domains of immunisation and veterinary laboratories.
