This photo, released by the Korea Heritage Service (KHS) on June 24, 2025, shows Gwanwoldang, a building believed to be a royal shrine from the Joseon Dynasty (1392-1910), at Kotoku-in Temple in Kamakura, near Tokyo, before it was disassembled to send to South Korea. The KHS and the Overseas Korean Cultural Heritage Foundation signed an agreement the previous day with the Japanese Buddhist temple to donate it to South Korea. The disassembled building is now stored at the Korea Foundation for Traditional Architecture and Technology in Paju, just north of Seoul, 100 years after it was taken to Japan.
