Infosys to hire 100 people in Australia

Melbourne, July 13 (PTI) Indian IT major Infosys is set
to increase its local workforce in Australia by 100 employees
after it was awarded 450 million Australian dollars
application development and maintenance contract last week.

"Infosys is recruiting for a variety of positions this
financial year (April 1, 2009, to March 31, 2010) primarily at
senior and middle levels. This may also include some junior
level employees who have graduated within the last few years.

"The growth will occur predominantly in Sydney and
Melbourne, but also may see some people traveling to New
Zealand for assignment," Infosys spokesperson told PTI on
Monday.

Infosys Australia last week announced that it had been
chosen by Telstra as a key strategic partner to support its
five-year 450 million AUD application development and
maintenance contracts.

"The recent Telstra win is one of the many factors behind
this recruitment.

"The growth is supported by a desire to hire locally for
longer term assignments rather than being dependent on niche
skills being supported from India; the build-up of new talent
to compliment our Consulting and Systems Integration Unit
launched earlier this year and various new opportunities which
are opening up across other industry verticals," she said.

The company claims to have about 2,500 staff currently
serving Australia and New Zealand clients with about 1,000 of
them located in Australia. Infosys has offices in Brisbane,
Melbourne, Perth and Sydney.

She further elaborated that new employees to Infosys
Australia will work across a variety of projects -– some of
these will be Telstra.

The new development is looked as a result of prevailing
global recession that could have triggered Australian
companies to consider adopting new means to reduce costs and
stay competitive.

The company said in a statement that Australia was an
important market for Infosys and represents the third largest
country in terms of revenues.

"Infosys is committed to the Australian market and
committed to having a strong local team in place to deliver
the most balanced solutions for its clients," it said.

John McInerney, CIO and GMD Information Technology of
Telstra, said he was confident that the new agreements will
deliver significant benefits.

McInerney said, "This is an important milestone for
Telstra IT...Infosys has been chosen as one of our key
partners in this important area. Our work together in the AD&M
domain is crucial to Telstra’s future IT success and we look
forward to continuing our relationship."

"Telstra has been one of our most significant clients
globally since 2003, and we’re delighted to be selected to
build on that strategic partnership," said Kris
Gopalakrishnan, CEO and Managing Director of parent company
Infosys Technologies Limited.

Infosys Australia CEO Jackie Korhonen attributed the
selection to Infosys’ transformation expertise and proven
track record in meeting Telstra’s objectives. PTI
