Govt to take precautions to prevent mishaps at metro sites
New Delhi, July 13 (PTI) Indian government Monday said
all precautions would be taken to prevent accidents at Delhi
Metro construction sites and made it clear that anybody found
guilty of negligence would not be spared.
Taking to reporters after making a statement in Lok
Sabha (Lower House of Indian Parliament) on Sunday's incident
at a metro site, Urban Affairs Minister S Jaipal Reddy said,
"We will not spare anybody. When I say anybody, it is anybody
that includes Gammon India provided we receive a report by the
committee."
He was asked whether the incident in which six persons
were killed Sunday was result of Gammon India subcontracting
the construction work to smaller companies.
Reddy said Monday's incident in which two cranes
collapsed would also be investigated by the committee setup
for the purpose and added that his Ministry would monitor the
situation.
Four persons were injured while clearing the debris at
the accident spot Monday.
Reddy said that all precautions would be taken to prevent
such accidents.
"We will never compromise on safety aspects. We will
see to it that all precautions are taken to prevent recurrence
of such events," Reddy said.
On Delhi Government's decision not to accept the
resignation of Metro Chief E Sreedharan, the Reddy said Delhi
Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit had consulted him on the issue.
"Now that his resignation has not been accepted, I
believe the matter will eventually rest there," he said.
Sunday, six persons were killed and 15 were injured
when an under-construction bridge of Delhi Metro collapsed in
South Delhi. PTI
