Global Praise For Thailand-Cambodia Peace Talks Reflects PM Anwar’s Principled Leadership
KUALA LUMPUR, July 30 (Bernama) -- Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s moral courage and principled leadership in spearheading peace efforts between Thailand and Cambodia have elevated Malaysia’s standing on the international stage, according to the Anwar Ibrahim Club (AIC).
AIC president Md Yusop Harmain Shah said the open recognition from major powers such as the United States, France, Germany, China, Japan, Australia, the Netherlands, the European Union and Pakistan, as well as regional partners like Indonesia, Singapore, Vietnam, the Philippines and Brunei, demonstrates Malaysia’s capability as a respected middle power under credible and principled leadership.
“As the nation’s leader and ASEAN Chair, the Prime Minister not only succeeded in bringing the two neighbouring countries to the negotiating table but also demonstrated principled leadership in upholding diplomacy and humanitarian values.
“Leadership that carries a message of peace, champions justice and upholds humanitarian values — this is the face of Malaysia MADANI that makes the nation a source of pride to the world,” he said in a statement on Facebook Wednesday.
Md Yusop said this achievement stems from a mature foreign policy approach that is visionary and unafraid to consistently speak the truth on the international stage.
In this regard, AIC also called on all Malaysians to continue standing firmly behind Anwar and to strengthen Malaysia’s voice regionally and globally.
The special meeting between Thailand and Cambodia, chaired by Malaysia in Putrajaya on July 28, resulted in both parties agreeing to an unconditional ceasefire, easing tensions that had escalated between the two neighbouring countries since July 24.
