KAUST Academy Leverages AI, Strategic Initiatives to Advance Saudi Vision 2030 Goals

Jeddah, August 01, 2025, SPA -- The King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) Academy is using artificial intelligence (AI) to produce meaningful research and support a knowledge-based economy in line with Saudi Vision 2030, with a strategic focus on developing the national scientific workforce through various initiatives.
To build qualified national competencies, KAUST has launched the Lifelong Learning Initiative, which offers continuous training in fields such as AI, cybersecurity, bioinformatics, and future materials. The university also provides free micro-courses with professional certificates and runs specialized training programs for over 15,000 Saudi university students in AI, bioinformatics, and renewable energy.
Through its STEPs program, KAUST Academy prepares school students for admission to top global universities through a 15-month academic and practical training course. The university has also developed centers of excellence and established a generative AI center to create multicultural and bilingual visual language models for use in education, healthcare, and data privacy.
Since 2009, KAUST Academy has provided academic programs to thousands of students, with 15,000 benefiting from virtual education and 2,800 attending in-person sessions. Of those, 280 were selected for scholarships at prestigious universities such as Oxford and Cambridge. These efforts establish KAUST as an integrated national platform for developing the country’s human capital.
