Bahrain’s Dispute Resolution Council engages in ASIL session in Singapore

Singapore, Sep. 2 (BNA):  Professor Marike Patrani Paulsson, the Secretary-General of the Council for International Dispute Resolution of the Kingdom of Bahrain, joined distinguished panellists at the ASIL Interest Groups Engagement Session:  International Law in the New Era – Bridging Practice and Research.

The event, held at the Yong Pung How School of Law, Singapore Management University (SMU), was supported by Foley Hoag LLP, the SMU Centre for Digital Law, and the American Society of International Law (ASIL) Interest Groups in Asia-Pacific, International Law and Technology, and Law of the Sea.

The session, moderated by Professor Pasha L. Hsieh, brought together leading practitioners and academics.  Panel speakers included Peter Tzeng (Partner, Foley Hoag LLP), Professor Marike Paulsson (Council for International Dispute Resolution of the Kingdom of Bahrain), Dr. Tara Maria Davenport (NUS Law), Associate Professor Nengye Liu (SMU), and Professor Georgios Dimitropoulos (HBKU Law).  Closing remarks were delivered by Associate Professor Han-Wei Liu (SMU).

Professor Paulsson contributed insights from her experience in international dispute resolution and treaty negotiations, particularly highlighting the interplay between treaty drafting and the dynamics of multilateral negotiations at the United Nations.  She emphasised that understanding this intersection is crucial for young practitioners who wish to make a meaningful impact in the international legal field.

On the sidelines of the event, Professor Paulsson met with Melida Hodgson, President of ASIL, and discussed upcoming ASIL initiatives abroad and potential future events in the Kingdom of Bahrain, and she held a bilateral meeting with Professor Lee Pey Woan, the Dean of the Yong Pung How School of Law (SMU), where they discussed a joint masterclass at SMU about commercial courts, along with the upcoming apprenticeship programme for SMU students in Bahrain at the BICC.
