Kyrgyzstan, UNICEF discuss children support and demographic growth

Bishkek, Sept. 5, 2025 /Kabar/. Minister of Labor, Social Security and Migration of the Kyrgyz Republic Kanat Sagynbaev met with Head of the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) Representative in Kyrgyzstan Samman Thapa.

During the discussion, the minister of labor touched upon the issue of declining birth rates, which negatively affects the increase in the workforce burden factor. "Having reviewed the analytical materials of UNICEF, I see that the situation of children and youth requires drastic measures," said Minister Sagynbaev.

The minister emphasized that the principle of consistency and continuity of state policy will be maintained in the work. In turn, expectations were expressed for initiatives from development partners in research and evaluation of the new state initiative to support the development of all children under 3 years of age.

"By joint efforts, we will be able to develop effective solutions in the shortest possible time. The main task of the Ministry is to support all socially vulnerable categories of citizens,” the minister stated.

A separate block considered the issues of training and education of social workers. The president of the Kyrgyz Republic signed a decree in January 2025 on the approval of 550 full-time positions of social workers to work with children. The first 280 specialists have already been selected and are undergoing training from August to September 13, 2025. The remaining 270 social workers will complete their training by the end of the year through the joint efforts of UNICEF and the Ministry of Labor, Social Security and Migration.

The parties confirmed their readiness for more intensive interaction on further joint work in the field of social protection and support for children in Kyrgyzstan.
