Melaka To Host 19th AMMTC And Related Meetings Starting Monday

MELAKA (Malaysia), Sept 7 (Bernama) -- Melaka will become the focal point of regional security cooperation as it hosts the 19th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Transnational Crime (AMMTC) and its related meetings starting Monday.

The significant event will bring together leaders and delegates from ASEAN member states, Timor-Leste and key dialogue partners including China, Japan and the Republic of Korea (ROK) to address the pressing challenges of transnational crime.

The five-day agenda is packed with preparatory sessions, high-level discussions and crucial consultations aimed at strengthening regional mechanisms as well as fostering closer collaboration in combating various forms of transnational crime.

On Tuesday, Malaysia’s Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim will officiate the 19th AMMTC which will feature remarks from ASEAN Secretary-General Dr Kao Kim Hourn and Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.

The core discussions of the 19th AMMTC will take place on Wednesday with ministers and delegates engaging in comprehensive dialogues covering 24 agenda items on transnational crime, while bilateral meetings held throughout the day will allow for focused discussions between member states.

AMMTC leaders and their spouses will be offered a cultural experience on a relaxing Melaka River Cruise, while other delegates are free to explore the city's rich heritage.

On Thursday, the focus will shift to consultations with dialogue partners through the 15th AMMTC+3 Consultation, the 12th AMMTC+China Consultation, the 10th AMMTC+Japan Consultation, and the 6th AMMTC+ROK Consultation, followed by the symbolic handover of the chairmanship from Malaysia to the Philippines.

The meetings will conclude on Friday with a sightseeing programme for delegates before departure.

The 19th AMMTC and its related meetings form part of Malaysia’s ASEAN chairmanship this year under the theme “Inclusivity and Sustainability”, reflecting the country’s commitment to building a more secure and prosperous ASEAN community.
