Kyrgyzstan completed fencing its border in Batken

Bishkek, Sept. 12, 2025. /Kabar/. After the completion of the Kyrgyz-Tajik border delimitation work, the two countries began to install barbed wire fences on their sections. The Kabar agency inquired about the progress of the fence installation work in the Batken region.
According to the deputy head of the Engineering Department of the Border Service of the State Committee for National Security Sapar Toktosunov, the work is under the personal supervision of the Chairman of the State Committee for National Security Kamchybek Tashiev. Currently, the border demarcation continues in the region.
In Leilek district, 21,537 meters of barbed wire have already been installed, and 68,061 meters in Batken district. In total, 89,598 meters of fences have been installed on the border of the Batken region with Tajikistan - almost 90 kilometers.
"We built access roads, installed supports and finished stretching the wire with our own resources and equipment from the Ministry of Transport and Communications and the Ministry of Emergency Situations. Currently, the installation is going on in Zhany-Zher rural district of the Leilek district. 9 kilometers 700 meters long 3D barriers are being installed. This area was specified and designated by the intergovernmental commission of the two countries. I think the work will be completed within two or three days," he said.
According to Toktosunov, after the work in the Batken region is completed, installation of barriers will begin on the state border running through the Osh region.
"We will immediately begin work on the areas designated by the intergovernmental commission. I think the work will continue until the cold weather starts. In total, it is planned to install 420 kilometers of barriers. The wire will not be stretched in hard-to-reach mountainous areas. The places where people and livestock usually pass will be blocked," he noted. Domestic construction materials are used to fence the border. At the border outposts, they are welded, painted and delivered to the border line. In addition to the Border Service, employees of the Ministry of Defense, the Ministry of Emergency Situations and the Ministry of Internal Affairs are participating in the work on stretching the wire.
"The population is happy that the border is being strengthened. Local residents have also expressed their readiness to help so far, but we are not involving them, since the available forces are sufficient," added the deputy head of the Engineering Department of the Border Service.
On behalf of the presidential representative to the Batken region, Aibek Shamenov, local authorities are assisting in demarcation.
A working group led by the akim of the Leilek district, Zhenishbek Asylbek uulu, is conducting explanatory work among the population on the installation of wire fences. In Zhany-Zher and Ken-Talaa of the Leilek district there are 105 residential buildings, courtyards, commercial facilities and trees have been cleared from the border line. The cleaning has been fully completed, and the areas have been prepared for the installation of fences. It is reported that the issue of compensation to residents will be decided based on the results of an independent assessment.
The representative office noted that local residents treat these works with understanding.
The installation of barbed wire fences began in April. In total, it is planned to fence 420 kilometers of the border. Like Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan has also begun installing barbed wire fences on its side.
