The MOU outlines a $6 million grant from Saudi Arabia through the SFD, as part of the fifth phase of the Saudi Well Drilling and Rural Development Program in Africa. The signing was attended by Saudi Ambassador to the Islamic Republic of Mauritania Dr. Abdulaziz bin Abdullah Al-Raqabi.
The grant aims to contribute to strengthening water security in Mauritania, which will help combat desertification, support the agricultural sector, and reduce the spread of waterborne diseases.
Since 1982, the Saudi Well Drilling and Rural Development Program in Africa has contributed to the drilling and equipping of more than 10,000 water facilities in 21 African countries, with a value exceeding $330 million. These efforts help improve living standards and support sustainable water and food security.
