Kyrgyz Speaker comments on self-dissolution of Jogorku Kenesh

Bishkek, Sept. 17, 2025 /Kabar/. Speaker of the Zhogorku Kenesh Nurlanbek Turgunbek uulu made a statement today at a meeting regarding the self-dissolution of the Kyrgyz parliament.
According to him, the parliament is undergoing a self-dissolution procedure. This moment is conveyed with different coloring, in different meanings.
"As the speaker, I would like to state that, according to the Constitution of the Kyrgyz Republic, only the Zhogorku Kenesh itself can make a decision on the self-dissolution of parliament. No one else has such powers, not even the president or external forces. Due to compelling reasons, a working group was formed, which approached me with a proposal to self-dissolve parliament. After the appeal, I gave the necessary instructions.
I understand these reasons; they are all justified. As everyone knows, presidential elections will be held in January 2027, which were approved by parliament. And parliamentary elections were supposed to be held at the end of November 2026. However, it turns out that the elections will be held in parallel. You all know very well that holding such important and fundamental elections in the country at the same time will lead to a number of difficulties and problems, in economic and political terms.
Also, the main body for holding elections, the Central Election Commission, states that this will be technically and physically very difficult. Therefore, it will be right to hold early presidential or parliamentary elections. The initiative group put forward a proposal to hold early parliamentary elections. I think this is right. Parliament will consider this issue and by decision of the majority of deputies the issue will be resolved.
