Uruguay To Showcase Halal Beef At MIHAS 2025

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 17 (Bernama) -- Fresh from securing Malaysian halal certification for its abattoirs, Uruguay is bringing its world-renowned beef to the Malaysia International Halal Showcase (MIHAS) 2025 in a major foray into the Malaysian market.
Chargé d’Affaires of the Embassy of Uruguay in Malaysia, L. Mariela Machado, said this will be the first time Uruguayan halal-certified beef will be introduced in Malaysia following the recent approval of its two abattoirs.
She said the two Uruguayan meat establishments were approved by the Department of Veterinary Services Malaysia and the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM) in July for the export of halal beef to this market.
"Uruguay is eager to introduce its meats to Malaysian consumers and businesses, highlighting its track record in global halal markets,” she told Bernama recently.
A nation of just 3.5 million people but home to more than 12 million cattle, Uruguay’s meat is recognised all over the world.
“We have halal meats that we export to Europe, the Emirates, Japan, the United States, and now to Malaysia. For us, this is something really important,” Machado said.
Machado said Uruguay’s Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Valeria Csukasi, together with the representatives of the National Meat Institute of Uruguay and managers of the approved establishments were already in Malaysia to mark the milestone and engage with local counterparts.
Csukasi will also attend MIHAS and visit the Uruguay pavilion on Thursday, where Uruguay’s halal meat will be promoted to Malaysian buyers, she said.
MIHAS 2025 returns for its 21st edition at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC) from Sept 17 to Sept 20.
Machado was optimistic that the halal meat promotion at MIHAS would serve as a platform to deepen trade ties with Malaysia and raise awareness of Uruguay’s reputation as one of the world’s leading meat exporters.
