Malaysia’s PDRM Awaits Details from Myanmar on Syndicate Trafficking Drugs
KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 17 (Bernama) -- The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) is awaiting further information from Myanmar’s anti-narcotics unit regarding a syndicate believed to be involved in large-scale drug trafficking into Malaysia, Inspector-General of Police Mohd Khalid Ismail said.
“It is still under investigation, and we are working closely with the Myanmar narcotics authorities. We are awaiting further details from them,” he told a press conference at the Police Training Centre (Pulapol) here on Wednesday.
Last Saturday, a Myanmar daily reported that the country’s anti-narcotics team had dismantled a drug syndicate suspected of trafficking large amounts of drugs into Malaysia, following the arrest of six suspects in Shwepyitha Township, Yangon, on Sept 5.
During the operation, authorities seized 1,840 kilogrammes (kg) of methamphetamine, four million stimulant tablets and 14 kg of heroin hidden in a warehouse. The drugs were believed to have been sourced from Shan State and were intended to be shipped to Malaysia.
