Bahrain, Japan sign consultation document on air transport services and direct flights

Tokyo, Sep. 19 (BNA): As part of the official visit of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, to Japan, the Kingdom of Bahrain and Japan signed a consultation document on air transport services and direct flights.

The document was signed on the Bahraini side by Ahmed Al Doseri, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Bahrain to Japan, and on the Japanese side by Miyazawa Koichi, Director General of the Civil Aviation Bureau at the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism of Japan, in the presence of HRH the Crown Prince and Prime Minister.

Dr. Shaikh Abdulla bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Minister of Transportation and Telecommunications, commended the strong historical relations between the Kingdom of Bahrain and Japan, emphasising that the signing reflects mutual keenness to broaden cooperation and advance shared interests. The minister described Bahrain–Japan ties as a model of bilateral relations built on mutual respect and effective partnership.

He highlighted that the consultation document aligns with Bahrain’s leadership’s vision to modernise and develop the air transport system, consolidating Bahrain’s role as a prominent regional and international hub for aviation and logistics.

The agreement includes provisions to launch direct flights between the two countries. This step will enhance trade, investment, and tourism, improve Bahrain International Airport’s connectivity with strategic markets, and provide travellers with new and flexible options through codesharing between airlines.

Shaikh Abdulla bin Ahmed said the step represents a strategic addition to Bahrain’s air transport agreements, creating greater opportunities for national and international airlines to expand operations in line with sustainable development goals and Bahrain’s Economic Vision 2030.

He concluded that the consultation document with Japan will benefit both countries, reinforcing Bahrain’s role as a key air transport hub in the region, and opening new avenues for cooperation in aviation and logistics to serve the interests of both peoples.
