Customs President visits Italian Customs and Monopolies Agency

Rome, Sep. 23 (BNA): As part of his official visit to Italy, Shaikh Ahmed bin Hamad Al Khalifa, President of Customs, and his delegation visited the Italian Customs and Monopolies Agency and several customs centres and vital border points to review best practices and procedures in customs work.

This visit supports efforts to enhance cooperation and exchange expertise between the two countries, in line with the Memorandum of Understanding signed between Bahrain Customs and the Italian Customs and Monopolies Agency last February.

Shaikh Ahmed bin Hamad and the delegation reviewed key Italian experiences, including the Authorised Economic Operator (AEO) programme, temporary admission systems, the role of customs in e-commerce, and participated in a dialogue on customs' contribution to sustainable development through "Green Customs" initiatives. The visit also covered customs laboratories and analysis facilities, training on risk management, and familiarisation with European Union joint targeting platforms.

The Customs President emphasised that the visit reflects Bahrain’s commitment to learning from advanced international customs experiences and strengthening its position as a regional leader in trade and logistics. He noted that these efforts support the national economy and sustainable development goals, highlighting the importance of continuing to exchange expertise with international partners to solidify cooperation and develop customs work in line with Bahrain’s Economic Vision 2030.
