Foreign Minister participates in joint ministerial meeting between GCC, French Foreign Ministers

New York, Sep. 23 (BNA): Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, Minister of Foreign Affairs, participated in a joint ministerial meeting held at the Permanent mission of France to the United Nations in New York between the foreign ministers of the Gulf Cooperation Council states and the French Republic, on the sidelines of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly.

The GCC delegation was led by Abdullah Ali Al Yahya, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the State of Kuwait, and Chairman of the current session of the Ministerial Council, while the French was chaired by Jean Noël Barrot, Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs of France, in the presence of Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi, Secretary General of the GCC.

The ministers discussed the historical ties between the GCC and France, noting its progress across political, economic, and trade levels. They explored means to enhance cooperation across various domains, serving the interests and aspirations of the two sides.

Both sides also discussed regional developments and their impact on security and stability in the region, expanding cooperation and coordination to address current challenges, including the war in Gaza, protection of international navigation, and efforts to achieve comprehensive peace in the region.

The ministers commended the success of the international two-state solution conference held at the UN yesterday, noting several countries’ recognition of the State of Palestine. They underlined the importance of continuing joint efforts to secure further international recognition of the Palestinian state.

The meeting was attended by Ambassador Jamal Faris Al Ruwaie, Permanent Representative of Bahrain to the UN in New York, and Ambassador Khaled Yousef Al Jalahma, Undersecretary for Political Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
