Kyrgyzstan participates in Intergovernmental Council on subsoil resources of CIS in Astana

Bishkek, Sept. 26, 2025 /Kabar/. The 28th session of the Intergovernmental Council for the Exploration, Use, and Protection of Subsoil Resources opened in Astana, on September 25.

According to the Ministry of Natural Resources, the Kyrgyz delegation at the session is led by Deputy Minister and Director of the Kyrgyz Geological Service Marat Zhusupbekov.

In his speech, Zhusupbekov emphasized that cooperation within the Intergovernmental Council, including in the areas of digitalization of subsoil use processes, mineral reserve estimation systems, exchange of experience in improving the legislative framework, and other pressing issues, contributes to the sustainable development of the geological and mining industries of the CIS member states in the face of modern challenges. Deputy Minister then presented a report on the Intergovernmental Council's activities for the second half of 2024 and the first half of 2025.

Additionally, as part of further cooperation, the Intergovernmental Councils and relevant ministries of the CIS member states have been instructed to focus their efforts on the following areas:

- holding events to exchange best practices in the digitalization of public services and functions in the field of subsoil use;

- sharing experience in geochemical research, developing methodological recommendations for laboratory and analytical technologies;

- harmonizing national reserve classifications with international accounting systems;

- developing cooperation in the creation of geoparks to preserve unique geological features;

- staffing the geological industry;

- developing regulatory legal acts taking into account current and future challenges in geology and subsoil use for submission to the highest CIS bodies for consideration.

Furthermore, during the intersessional period, the participants focused on implementation of the long-term plan for joint work for 2023-2030 continued, priority areas of cooperation in the field of geological mapping, exploration and use of mineral resources, the unification of standards and regulatory documents, and the digitalization of subsoil use processes.
