Tourism Minister: Bahrain advancing tourism to achieve sustainability goals

Manama, Sep. 26 (BNA): Fatima bint Jaafar Al Sairafi, Minister of Tourism, emphasised on the occasion of World Tourism Day, observed annually on September 27, that the Kingdom of Bahrain, under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and the directives of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, is steadily consolidating its position as a prominent tourism destination regionally and internationally.

 

She underlined the importance of this global occasion as an opportunity to highlight the pivotal role of tourism as a bridge of human communication, a tool for fostering understanding and peace among peoples, and a vital contributor to the national economy as one of the promising sectors within Bahrain’s comprehensive development.

 

In line with this year’s theme “Tourism and Sustainable Transformation,” the Minister underlined Bahrain’s commitment to developing the tourism sector in line with sustainable development goals. She noted that hotels, tourism facilities, and transport services are increasing investments in environmental sustainability, aiming to balance tourism growth with environmental protection and the preservation of cultural and historical heritage. She added that Bahrain continues to boost tourism investment and expand regional and international cooperation with leading organisations in the sector, supporting global efforts to achieve sustainable development goals.

 

The minister emphasised that the Tourism Sector Strategy (2022–2026) provides a roadmap to advance the sector, strengthen Bahrain’s status as a global tourism hub, diversify tourism products, increase tourism’s contribution to GDP, and create quality opportunities for Bahraini talent through innovative initiatives in partnership with the private sector.
