GSF Mission: Malaysia To Initiate Strong Protest If Vessel Is Intercepted By Israel - PM Anwar

SEPANG (Malaysia), Sept 30 (Bernama) -- Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim stressed that Malaysia will initiate a strong protest if the Gaza-bound Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) humanitarian aid vessel is intercepted or seized by Israel.

He said, besides that, diplomatic efforts with various other countries, including world global powers, would also be mobilised.

"We will initiate a strong and comprehensive protest, and I will strive to contact all parties, including countries that had presented a (peace) proposal, particularly Italy, Spain and Turkiye, with support from China.

"We are also looking at initiatives presented by France and Saudi Arabia, with whom we are in contact, because they intend to propose peace,” he said.

He said this at the media conference after visiting the Sumud Nusantara Command Centre (SNCC) here Tuesday.

Anwar also stressed the importance of forging close relationships with Western and Arab countries as well as other major powers, including the United States (US), to ensure the voices of the Palestinian people can be heard at all levels globally.

"Ties with Western and Arab countries and the region are crucial, including with the US.

"I hope our friends in this struggle are not swayed by the chatter here, (because) they understand the meaning of negotiations and the insistence for world leaders, particularly the US, to accept the reality and the demands of the global community,” he said.

Anwar hoped that the meeting with US President Donald Trump during the 47th ASEAN Summit in October would provide an effective resolution to ending the conflict in Gaza.

Anwar added that, although the resolution achieved may not satisfy all parties, Malaysia's basic demand remains clear - an immediate end to the violent attacks on Gaza.

A total of 34 Malaysians are among activists from 45 countries involved in attempting to break the siege on Gaza through this international humanitarian effort.

They have remained steadfast despite facing obstacles and threats, including drone attacks.

Malaysia was the first country to officially recognise the mission, with Anwar extending full support.

The GSF, now sailing in international waters near Greece, carries food supplies, medicines and a message of peace, urging an end to war and famine, while demanding the opening of a humanitarian corridor to Gaza.
