Jazan Coffee Cultivation a Deep-Rooted Heritage Taking Its Place on Global Stage
Jizan, October 2, 2025, SPA -- Coffee cultivation in Jazan Region is a deeply rooted heritage passed down through generations and a vital part of its cultural and social identity, and in recent years it has seen remarkable development thanks to state initiatives that have enhanced the productivity and quality of Saudi coffee.
The efforts -- championed by the Jazan Region Development Strategic Office; the Mountainous Areas Development and Reconstruction Authority in Jazan; the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture; Aramco; and the Saudi Coffee Company -- have brought Jazan coffee to the global stage, overcoming geographical challenges such as water scarcity, transportation across difficult mountainous routes, and past declines in interest in this product.
The celebration of the International Coffee Day annually on October 1 provides an opportunity to highlight Jazan as the home of Saudi coffee and one of the Kingdom’s most prominent coffee growing regions. Its mountainous governorates including Al-Dayer, Fayfa, Al-Ardah, Al-Raith, Harub, and Al-Edabi enjoy ideal climatic and geographical conditions for coffee cultivation, producing some of the finest and most renowned Saudi coffee.
Recent statistics show a notable increase in Jazan’s coffee output, exceeding 1,000 tons annually from about 2,000 farms, including over 500 model farms, collectively hosting more than 400,000 coffee trees. The growth reflects comprehensive initiatives, including farmer training in modern techniques, the installation of smart irrigation systems, the establishment of quality enhancement laboratories, and the launch of sustainable rural agricultural development programs.
The annual Saudi Coffee Festival stands as both a cultural and economic celebration of Jazan’s coffee industry. It serves as a carnival honoring the collective efforts that have driven the growth of coffee cultivation, which holds high economic value and long-term promise.
