Bahrain's parliamentary delegation participates in Arab Group meeting at IPU in Geneva

Geneva, Oct. 18 (BNA): The Parliamentary Division delegation of the Kingdom of Bahrain participated in a coordination meeting of the Arab Group in the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), held in Geneva on the sidelines of the 151st IPU Assembly and related meetings.
The meeting was chaired by Sheikh Dr. Abdullah bin Mohammed bin Ibrahim Al Sheikh, Speaker of the Shura Council of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and attended by Mohammed Ahmed Al Yamahi, Speaker of the Arab Parliament.
Ahmed bin Salman Al Musallam, Speaker of the Council of Representatives and Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Parliamentary Division, stressed the need to urge all member states of the IPU to recognise the State of Palestine and to mobilise international parliamentary positions in support of the Palestinian people and their legitimate rights, including the right to self-determination and an end to the occupation. He underlined the importance of making immediate efforts to deliver relief aid and medical supplies to all areas affected by the war on Gaza.
He also emphasised the importance of supporting and advancing the two-state solution negotiations in line with international legitimacy. He noted that Arab parliamentary efforts within international meetings and forums reflect continued cooperation and coordination to develop shared visions in support of issues of concern to Arab states and peoples.
Al Musallam reiterated Bahrain’s firm position in supporting the Palestinian cause, noting the Kingdom’s continued commitment to enhancing parliamentary cooperation and coordination with Arab parliaments, in line with the principles of Bahraini parliamentary diplomacy.
He added that the ideas and discussions in the Arab coordination meetings reflect a sense of parliamentary responsibility and commitment to highlighting Arab issues and encouraging joint resolutions among world parliaments to help address global challenges.
Dr. Hamda bint Hassan Al Sulaiti, member of the IPU Executive Committee and representative of the Arab Group in the Union, presented a detailed report on the Union’s recent activities and programmes and reviewed the agenda of the IPU Governing Council.
On their part, participants discussed common views and coordinated positions to support the Palestinian cause and the two-state solution and to ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid to the Palestinian people.
Bahrain’s delegation to the meeting included Jamal Mohammed Fakhro, First Deputy Chairman of the Shura Council and Deputy Head of the Delegation; Abdulnabi Salman, First Deputy Speaker of the Council of Representatives and member of the IPU Peace and International Security Committee; Dalal Jassim Al Zayed, Chairperson of the Legislative and Legal Affairs Committee in the Shura Council and Member of the IPU Committee to Promote Respect for International Humanitarian Law; MP Ahmed Sabah Al Salloom; Hassan Ibrahim Hassan, member of the Forum of Young Parliamentarians Bureau of the IPU; Dr. Bassam Ismail Al Binmohammed, member of the Shura Council; MP Maryam Saleh Al Dhaen; MP Dr. Mahdi Abdulaziz Al Shuwaikh; Hala Ramzy Fayez, member of the Shura Council; Mohammed Ibrahim Al Sisi Al Buainain, Secretary-General of the Council of Representatives and Secretary of the Executive Committee of the Parliamentary Division; and Kareema Mohammed Al Abbasi, Secretary General of the Shura Council.
