Speaker meets with Arab Parliament Speaker in Geneva

Geneva, Oct. 18 (BNA): Ahmed bin Salman Al Musallam, Speaker of the Council of Representatives and Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Parliamentary Division, met with Mohammed Ahmed Al Yamahi, Speaker of the Arab Parliament, in Geneva. The meeting was held on the sidelines of the 151st Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Assembly.

 

Speaker Al Musallam underlined the Kingdom of Bahrain’s commitment to supporting Arab parliamentary action, strengthening partnerships, and enhancing cooperation and coordination among Arab councils and parliaments in service of shared interests and unified Arab positions in international forums.  

 

He noted that Bahrain’s steadfast approach to supporting Arab causes and assisting parliaments in advancing development and progress in Arab nations reflects the vision and directives of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and the continued follow-up of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister.

 

The Speaker commended the prominent role of the Arab Parliament in championing Arab issues and defending them in regional and international platforms. He noted the its efforts to develop parliamentary visions that improve the performance of Arab parliaments and legislative councils and enhance mechanisms of joint parliamentary work.  

 

He emphasised the Kingdom’s commitment to continue supporting Arab efforts aimed at unifying parliamentary positions and exchanging legislative expertise, in recognition of the parliamentary role in advancing sustainable development and promoting cooperation and solidarity among Arab countries. He added that Bahrain’s parliamentary diplomacy is founded on firm principles that help advance parliamentary relations and foster continued progress and development.

 

On his part, Al Yamahi expressed appreciation for Bahrain’s positions in supporting Arab parliamentary work and safeguarding the security and stability of the Arab world. He commended the Kingdom’s active contributions through its Parliamentary Division, describing it as a model of effective Arab cooperation.

 

The Arab Parliament Speaker also commended Speaker Al Musallam’s commitment to enhancing Arab parliamentary relations, emphasising that Bahrain is a key partner in supporting and advancing the Arab Parliament’s role and presence in international parliamentary forums.

 

The meeting was attended by Abdulnabi Salman, First Deputy Speaker of the Council of Representatives; Dalal Jassim Al Zayed, member of the Shura Council; Dr. Bassam Ismail Al Binmohammed, Maryam Saleh Al Dhaen; Mohammed Ibrahim Al Sisi Al Buainain, Secretary-General of the Council of Representatives; and Kareema Mohammed Al Abbasi, Secretary General of the Shura Council.
