The Activities Of The Iraqi-Italian Business Council Launched... And Baghdad Hosts The "Made in Italy" Exhibition

Baghdad / NINA /- Activities of the Iraqi–Italian Business Council were officially launched today, Wednesday, in Baghdad, under the patronage of the Council and in cooperation with the Italian Embassy. The event was attended by advisers to the Prime Minister, representatives of ministries and official bodies from both the Iraqi and Italian governments, diplomatic missions, loan-granting institutions, as well as a distinguished group of business leaders and investors. The initiative aims to strengthen economic relations and expand avenues of cooperation between Iraq and Italy.
During the official ceremony, Deputy Minister of Trade Star Al-Jabri stated that “enhancing trade relations between Iraq and Italy requires establishing joint business councils and supporting organizations concerned with the private sector.” He emphasized that relations between the two countries “are strong and longstanding, particularly in the fields of energy and infrastructure.”
Al-Jabri pointed out that the Partnership and Cooperation Agreement, signed in Rome and in force since 2009, represents an important framework for bilateral relations. However, the joint committee has not convened since 2019, and there are now high-level efforts underway to reactivate and follow up on its work under the supervision of the Prime Minister.
He stressed that the launch of the Iraqi–Italian Business Council will play a key role in strengthening partnerships between the public and private sectors, especially as Iraq is currently experiencing political, economic, and security stability after overcoming the challenges of terrorism. He also praised Italy’s important role in supporting Iraq during its fight against terrorist organizations.
Al-Jabri highlighted the promising opportunities for investment and trade exchange between the two countries, noting that the trade balance has not yet reached its full potential. He explained that Iraq’s trade value with Italy amounts to around $3 billion in Iraq’s favor and $2 billion in Italy’s favor, with Italy well known for its industries in jewelry, electrical tools, and medical equipment.
The Deputy Minister also announced that the Ministry of Trade has invited Italy to organize a “Made in Italy” exhibition at the Baghdad International Fair in 2026, noting strong interest and positive response to this significant economic event. /End
