Thailand Hit by Stray Fire Amid Intensified Myanmar Border Clashes

TAK, Dec 3 (TNA) - Intense fighting between the Myanmar military and anti-junta resistance forces has escalated near the Thai border, with heavy weapon fire and airstrikes directly impacting Thai territory. 

The clashes are concentrated near Minlapan village in Myawaddy, opposite Mae Sot, Thailand. The sounds of explosions and gunfire are audible across the river, prompting Thai authorities to close all informal border crossings for seven days and deploy increased security forces to the frontier.

The cross-border fire has resulted in casualties and property damage in Thailand's Tak province. Ms. Lao Pin Thipjanta, 67, was injured after a stray bullet pierced her bedroom wall and struck her thigh while she was sleeping. 

Thai officials have visited the injured resident as security measures are tightened along the border. -819 (TNA)
