Mogadishu, December 03, 2025, SPA -- Head of Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA) Mahmoud Maalim Abdullah confirmed that Saudi Arabia was the first country to respond officially to the humanitarian appeal issued by the Federal Republic of Somalia, providing aid through the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief) after the country was hit by a severe drought due to lack of rainfall.
This came during a meeting between SoDMA head and Saudi Ambassador to Somalia Ahmed bin Mohammed Al-Mawlid, alongside Director of KSrelief's Africa Branch Yazeed Hamoud, to discuss the drought’s impact and the swift delivery of urgent aid to approximately 84,000 of the most affected individuals.
SoDMA head expressed his deep gratitude to Saudi Arabia, represented by KSrelief, for its swift humanitarian response. He also emphasized that the aid is a key pillar in efforts to assist those affected by the disaster, praising the Kingdom’s steadfast support during the challenges faced by the Somali people.
