Iran and Kazakhstan discuss expansion of transport ties

Tehran, IRNA – Iran’s minister of roads and urban development and her Kazakh counterpart have discussed ways to expand transit, rail, road, and air cooperation between Iran and Kazakhstan.
Minister of Roads and Urban Development Farzaneh Sadegh, who has accompanied President Masoud Pezeshkian on his trip to Kazakhstan, met and held talks with Kazakhstan’s Minister of Transport, Nurlan Sauranbayev, on the sidelines of the official programs of the visit on Thursday.
In this meeting, the two sides emphasized the importance of strengthening the role of Iran and Kazakhstan in regional transit networks and examined ways to expand cooperation in the North-South and East-West corridors.
They also exchanged views on enhancing joint cooperation in logistics centers stretching from China’s border in Kazakhstan to Iran’s southern ports, as strategic links in the regional transit chain.
Increasing truck traffic along the road routes between the two countries and removing existing obstacles in this sector were also among the topics of discussion.
The Iranian and Kazakh ministers stressed the necessity of expanding rail cooperation in the field of bilateral trade and transit.
