Imam Turki bin Abdullah Royal Reserve Receives DarkSky International Accreditation

Rafha, December 15, 2025, SPA -- The Imam Turki bin Abdullah Royal Reserve Development Authority announced that Al Nafud Alkabir desert has received official accreditation from DarkSky International, registering it as one of the world’s accredited dark sky sites.
Located within the reserve east of the Hail–Al-Jouf Road, the site spans approximately 13,416 square kilometers, making it one of the largest accredited dark sky sites and among the least light-polluted areas in the Kingdom.
This achievement is the result of extensive scientific efforts, including field studies, precise astronomical observations, and advanced nighttime analyses.
CEO of the Imam Turki bin Abdullah Royal Reserve Development Authority Eng. Mohammed Al-Shaalan affirmed that the accreditation reflects the leadership’s commitment to environmental protection and the preservation of natural sites.
