AZERI OLYMPIC WRESTLING CHAMPION RETIRES
Baku. July 19 (AzerTAc). Azerbaijan`s Olympic wrestling champion Namig Abdullayev has completed his sportive carrier that spanned more than two decades.
A ceremony on the occasion brought together Abdullayev`s friends, the country`s famous sportsmen and officials, including President of the International Federation of Associated Wrestling Styles, FILA, Raphael Martinetti.
The FILA President spoke at the ceremony and praised Abdullayev`s achievements through his carrier.
Martinetti also hailed the Azeri government`s support for development of sport in the country.
Abdullayev said he would spare no efforts to build new generation of “strong wrestlers who will raise Azerbaijan`s flag at sportive grounds across the world”.
Abdullayev, a holder of Taraggi medal and Shohret order, also praised support of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev who also heads the country`s National Olympic Committee.
Abdullayev won Olympic champion title in Sidney Games in 2000.
