Political parties in India condemn frisking of Kalam

New Delhi, July 21 (PTI) Political parties in India
Tuesday condemned the incident involving the frisking of
former President A P J Abdul Kalam by the staff of an American
airliner here with the BJP seeking an apology on the issue
from the government.

"Government should tender an apology. It's a matter
relating to protocol and they have a responsibility in it,"
senior party leader Shahnawaz Hussain told reporters outside
Parliament.

Another party leader Rajiv Pratap Rudy said the
behaviour meted out to the former President is "totally
unacceptable".

"The responsibility of security of airports in India
is of CISF, which also carries out the frisking work," he said
adding action should be taken against the staff of the foreign
airline for this breach of protocol.

Terming the incident as "unfortunate", CPI-M's Sitaram
Yechury said, "We would also like to know whether the incident
happened due to the name which in that case makes it all the
more serious."

SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav said the government
should seriously raise objections over the incident.

Congress spokesperson Jayanthi Natarajan said if there
has been a breach of protocol, action will be taken by the
government after the probe.

"If such a breach of protocol has happened, we need to
look into it. I am sure if there has been a breach of trust
action will be taken by the ministry after probe," she said.

The Congress leader said every time there is a breach of
protocol, it has been taken up with the country concerned and
explanations were offered.

Noted lawyer Ram Jethmalani said the concerned airline
must aplogise. "It is absolutely bad manners on their part."
