Indian drug shipments busted by Vietnamese police

Hanoi, July 23 (PTI) Vietnamese police on Thursday
claimed to have busted an international trafficking gang
shipping banned drugs from India to China.

In a raid on a prominent city hotel, police arrested five
Nigerians and their local accomplices seizing two kilograms of
heroin worth millions of dollars in the international market.

"The suspects, which include five Nigerians and four
Vietnamese, have been involved in transporting a significant
amount of drugs from India to Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon),"
Vietnam News Agency reported.

The gang was allegedly found to be using Vietnamese women
as couriers for drugs from Ho Chi Minh City to the capital
Hanoi and then to China, it said.

Police said investigations into the case were continuing.

Vietnam has some of the world's toughest drug laws with
violators found trafficking more than 600 grams of heroin
punishable by death.

In less than a week, this is the second major haul of
drugs shipped from India. Earlier, Hong Kong police busted a
gang at the airport which was found transporting 9 kgs of
popular party drug ketamine worth more than USD 2.9 million.
