Security to Mayawati, Mulayam, Lalu not to be reduced: Govt

New Delhi, July 23 (PTI) National Security Guard (NSG)
protection to Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) leader Mayawati as
also Samajwadi Party (SP) supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav will not
be scaled down, the Indian government Thursday assured
Parliament bringing curtain down over the controversy which
rocked both Houses.

It also made it clear that the security cover to
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Murli Manohar Joshi and
Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad will also not be
reduced.

BSP members stormed the well of both Lok Sabha and Rajya
Sabha (Lower and Upper House of Indian Parliament) when they
assembled for the day expressing concern over the reported
move against Mayawati.

Both Yadav and Prasad had raised the issue in the Lok
Sabha on Wednesday warning the government that it would be
responsible if anything untoward happened to them.

While Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs
Prithviraj Chavan gave the assurance in the Rajya Sabha,
Parliamentary Affairs Minister P K Bansal made a similar
announcement in the Lok Sabha after several adjournments of
the two Houses over the issue.

After the issue was settled in the Lok Sabha, which saw
three adjournments, Congress and SP joined hands to target the
Mayawati government for removing security of several non-BSP
leaders. This was strongly objected to by BSP members.

In fact, SP members stormed the well of the House with
their party leader Mulayam Singh Yadav insisting that Congress
member Jagdambika Pal, who has been raising questions over the
way Mayawati government was providing security to leaders in
the state, should be heard. PTI SPG
