Official source expresses sadness at killings in Abyan

SANA'A, July 24 (Saba)- An
official source at the Presidency Office has expressed sadness at the killings,
sabotage
and attacks carried out by subversive elements beyond law to the headquarters of the
local authority, policemen and citizens at Zunjbar city in Abyan province.

"These vandalism acts are a serious escalation by those elements of the remnants of
the totalitarian regime and their supporters from abroad, who aiming at creating
insecurity
in the society", said the source.
The source called for the local authorities and the security forces in the province
to take over their responsibilities in the face of such reckless behaviors.
Ahmed al-Maisary, governor of Abyan was quoted on Thursday that at least eight
people were killed and 18 others, including an officer and policemen, were injured
as armed
fans of the anti-government movement in southern Yemen continued breaking laws.
Al-Maisary said that the attackers fired RPGs, other missiles and bullets in
Zunjbar, when they wanted to release some detainees at the Central Security.
"They were followers of Tariq al-Fadhli, a Jihadist leader who joined the movement
late last year", said al-Maisary.
"Fans of the movement started early Thursday gathering at al-Fadhli's house, which
is located opposite to the governmental complex in the city after the authorities
gave
them permission to hold a festival".
Gunfire with the security forces caused damages to the compound and nearby houses.
Rioting has been rocking several southern parts for months, with separatists
violating laws and attacking the security forces, the public properties and
sometimes the people
under alleged claims of prejudices.
