Seoul think tank publishes book on North Korea for foreign readers

SEOUL, July 24 (Yonhap) -- A rare English-language book analyzing changing trends
in North Korean society was published for foreign scholars by a South Korean
university institute, the publisher said Friday.

"The Dynamics of Change in North Korea," put together by Kyungnam University's
Institute for Far Eastern Studies, compiles socio-political and economic changes
in the reclusive state for scholars in English-speaking countries who are
interested in North Korean affairs.
Comprised of seven theses written by the institute's researchers, the book
introduces various measures North Korea has taken to rehabilitate its
ideology-based economy and open up to the international community. The July 1st
Economic Management Reform Measure established in 2002 and the regular dispatch
of government officials to Western countries are some of the North's signature
reforms.
The book will be sold and distributed in the U.S. by Lynne Rienner Publishers.
The institute, established in 1972 as a North Korea policy think tank, also
publishes the English-language quarterly "Asian Perspective."
