HEAD OF UN RESIDENT COORDINATOR`S OFFICE MEETS PRESS COUNCIL DEPUTY CHAIRMAN

Baku, 24 July (AzerTAc). Head of the Office of the United Nations Resident Coordinator Ms. Verena Linneweber has met with Umud Rahimoghlu, Deputy Chairman of Azerbaijan Press Council, Chairman of the Observation Council of the Fund of State Support for Development of Mass Media under the Azerbaijan President, and head of the International Eurasia Press Fund.
Rahimoglu said the International Eurasia Press Fund was a member of UN Economic and Social Council, U.S. Department of State public-private partnerships (PPP), European Council on Refugees and Exiles, International Peace Bureau and International Press Institute (IPI).
Rahimoglu briefed Verena Linneweber on the activities of Press Council and newly- established Fund of State Support for Development of Mass Media.
He noted state support for mass media in Azerbaijan aims at promoting freedom of speech in the country, strengthening cooperation among media outlets, increasing professionalism and responsibilities of journalists and other questions.
Verena Linneweber said she would inform the leadership of the UN Development Program (UNDP) of “this meeting”.
Ms. Linneweber noted she will pay another visit to Azerbaijan in September during which she will have an opportunity to familiarize herself more closely with the state of media in the country.
