Wareed introduced at Ajman's Khalifa Hospital
Wareed, a new innovative health information system launched by the Ministry of Health, entered today into the trial phase at the Sheikh Khalifa Hospital in Ajman. The Ministry of Health introduced the Wareed technological platform at Khalifa Hospital as the pilot for the project and as the first concrete step towards establishing a completely integrated electronic platform linking a total of 14 government run hospitals and their 68 affiliated clinics across the country.
Director of Ajman Medical Zone Hamad Al Shamsi attended the launch of the trial of the system which will be applied in units and wards of the hospital within a week.
“The initiative is a remarkable qualitative leap in delivery of medical services by the Ministry of Health. Wareed will automate all healthcare processes and link all UAE public hospitals and clinics via an online network by 2011. Doctors and nurses will have access to each patient's record, while patients will be able to view their own records online,” he said.
Wareed will bring improvements across seven key departments including registration '&' scheduling, physician order entry, emergency, surgery, pharmacy, laboratory and radiology.
The three-year technology-based health information system project will enhance the quality of health care delivery in public hospitals and health care centres across the country through rapid access to patients' important information. Wareed will virtually link all public sector medical establishments across the country and automate all healthcare processes supported by high-end data centres and network infrastructure.
It will bring tangible and highly beneficial changes for end users and medical professionals alike. A total of 6,000 medical professionals will use the system once fully deployed.
Once completed, Wareed will provide physicians with greater access to patients' medical history, complete, faster and accurate access to critical patient information at any given time and increased efficiency and collaboration amongst specialists and staff.
Paramedical staff will gain instant access to critical and up-to-date patient history during a crisis, improved communication with physicians and other healthcare facilities, in addition to reduced incidence of medical errors as patients' data is captured, stored and retrieved more accurately.
Medical establishments will also benefit through improved performance indicators, and reduced operational costs due to increased administration efficiency and streamlined management processes. State-run hospitals and clinics will also see an increase in effectiveness and efficiency in analyzing departmental performance, tracking healthcare trends, monitoring business continuity and disaster recovery.
