Cases of unfair stock market activity up 16.2 pct in H1


SEOUL, July 27 (Yonhap) -- South Korea's financial watchdog said Monday reported
cases of unfair stock market activity rose 16.2 percent annually in the first
half of this year.
There were 122 reported cases in the January-June period, compared with 105 a
year earlier, according to the Financial Supervisory Service.
Unfair practices in the stock market include rigging share prices, using
undisclosed information in trading and failing to report ownership of a large
number of stocks.
There were 17 cases of stock price manipulation in the first half, with those in
the country's tech-heavy KOSDAQ market accounting for 70.6 percent of them, the
watchdog said. There were 27 cases of using undisclosed information to gain
profits.
Meanwhile, the number of unfair trading cases reported to the bourse operator,
the Korea Exchange, came in at 93 during the period, up 25.7 percent from the
previous year, it added.
