Korea Zinc reports 12.6 pct drop in Q2 earnings

SEOUL, July 27 (Yonhap) -- Korea Zinc Inc., the world's second-largest zinc
smelter, said Monday that its second-quarter net profit fell 12.6 percent from a
year earlier due to decreased nonferrous metal prices.
Net income reached 113.7 billion won (US$91.4 million) in the April-June period,
compared with 130 billion won a year ago, Korea Zinc said in a regulatory filing.

Sales fell 11.9 percent on-year to 615 billion won during the same period, while
operating profit fell 62.3 percent to 66.5 billion won.
Shares of Korea Zinc closed down 0.34 percent to 146,000 won on the Seoul bourse.
